Project Blocks

5400 Block of 27th Terr

The 5400 block of 27th Terr in the Blue Valley neighborhood was one of the worst in the area. Drugs sales and prostitution were nonstop up and down the block with crimes against property and residents a common occurrence. Tikkun-KC acquired four vacant homes and several lots (the entire south side of the street). The homes were renovated and are now occupied by new first time homeowners. The home on the left was a total renovation with the new owners purchasing this home through a Tikkun-KC partner, Oak Star Bank, and their special rental history loan. The vacant lots were turned into an urban garden. Occupied homes started being upgraded by their owners, the drugs and prostitution are gone and you can now see school age children waiting on the corner for their school bus.

3500 Block of Indiana

Out of 20 parcels on this block only one house was occupied. There were three fire damaged houses, 6 vacant lots and the rest of the homes were boarded up. The home on the right was totally renovated by Tikkun-KC and then sold to a disabled veteran using his VA loan with Tikkun paying all of his closing costs. He got into this totally renovated house with less than $100 out of pocket and his payments less than $500 / mo. We are finishing our third house on the block with completion scheduled for fall 2021. The fire damaged houses have been torn down. New homeowners have since come in, purchased and renovated and now call this block home.
